The Juveniles are Arriving!
How quickly things can change in a week. Last week I mentioned how there was very little activity from the Hummingbirds and Orioles. While the Orioles have been coming around a little more often, the Hummingbirds have been going crazy! This is the best time of year to start paying attention to the Hummers as they begin their preparation for their migration south towards the end of August and early September. As a refresher, you can easily create your own Hummingbird nectar by combining 4 parts water to 1 part sugar.
Here are some photos and videos from this past week!
There has been a Juvenile Female Cardinal around quite frequently the past few days, and she is just adorable. She was just sitting in a tree watching over the surroundings, so I was able to get some shots of her relaxing and sitting calmly. She hasn’t quite figured out how to get into the feeders, but pretty soon, she’ll be joining the others for a nice meal!
Speaking of Juveniles, I shared a video last week of a Juvenile Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak being fed by the adult male. Well, she is now eating in the feeders! She was a little timid at first, but finally made it into the feeder, clinging to the side of the mesh feeder. Here she is having a sunflower seed dinner with a House Finch.
Speaking of House Finches, with the rain a couple days ago, there was plenty of activity at the feeders. The House Finches were having a great time! Here is a video of them in the safflower feeder.
That's it for now! We are starting to add some new Chirps of Joy releases on the shop. Coming in early August will be the Black-capped Chickadee, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Juvenile Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak, a brand new Goldfinch set, and a few others!
